Mentoring Scheme

It is necessary that we have better representation of students from all backgrounds at medical school and beyond, so I decided to start a small mentoring scheme to support prospective medical students with their applications.

This is a free year-long programme for students in Year 12 and above that will comprise of monthly meetings (can be more frequent than this if time permits), goal-setting and signposting resources and opportunities to strengthen each aspect of your application. These meetings will take place via the online platform that suits you most.

The only eligibility criteria is that you must have attended only non-selective state education, as determined by the UK government’s Department for Education (DfE), since the age of 11.

I am open to mentoring students regardless of their entry into medical school whether that be Year 12-13 students, gap year entrants or graduate entry medical applicants.

Applications are now OPEN

If you do not meet these criteria but are still interested in mentorship, please submit an enquiry here.

Feedback from past students

Sylvia, Gap year student

From the start of the programme Jess welcomed me and made me feel extremely comfortable. Jess continued to encourage me throughout the application process, the biggest thing that Jess helped me with was my personal statement. By continuously giving me constructive feedback in order to better my personal statement, therefore presenting myself in the best light. Jess is an inspiration to many and her programme is so selfless and highly appreciated by many. When applying for her mentoring program I specifically hoped that it was Jess that would be mentoring me and I was lucky enough to have such a mentor. This mentoring programme is one that I would recommend to everyone. Jess was always engaging in our meetings, and she always made time with me despite having a busy schedule of all. Although I was unsuccessful in gaining a place in medical school, Jess helped me realise that it wasn't the end. In conclusion, I think everybody should utilise the resources that 'Progress with Jess' is offering.

10/10 !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Words cannot explain how grateful I am for your help! I receives 3 offers this year because of this AMAZING HARDWORKING WOMAN!

Jessica’s mock interviews are so useful, she puts you on the spot which helps massively in emulating the interviews intensity! She gave me written feedback so I never felt I was missing out on something important.

She helped me improve the content, structure and delivery of my answers AND she commented on my overall performances. I loved how she had tailored interview questions for both MMI and panel formats. Jess has always encouraged me like a sister, and BOOSTED my confidence and self-esteem massively for the interview. The positive change I have made by being mentored by Jess will stay with me for the rest of my days! I owe so much to her for changing my life at this stage of my medical journey!

I just want to thank you for all your help over these past few months. From the many personal statement drafts to the practice interviews, I am extremely grateful for all the guidance and assistance you have given me.

I am incredibly happy to let you know that I have received an offer from Lancaster!

I acknowledge that I wouldn’t have been able to do so well without your support, so thank you for all of your help!
